Jessica Biel's New Prime Video Thriller Adaptation Continues An Optimistic 8-Year Rotten Tomatoes TV Streak
Image
Jessica Biel's new Prime Video thriller series continues a rather exciting TV streak that started back in 2017. Biel first climbed into fame in 1996 when she played Mary Camden in the family drama 7th Heaven, but in the years that followed, she focused predominantly on a movie career. Some of her notable projects include The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), Blade: Trinity (2004), The Illusionist (2006), The A-Team (2010), Hitchcock (2012), and more. Biel didn't dive back into a regular TV role until 2017's The Sinner, a project that performed exceptionally well and earned the actor Golden Globe and Emmy nominations.

The Sinner holds an impressive 92% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, and though Biel stepped off the screen after season 1 to focus wholly on her executive producer role, the series has continued to perform well. In the eight years since, Biel has taken up other TV roles, including Linetown (2019), and Candy (2022 to present). These series performed exceptionally well with critics,...

John Carpenter

According to Variety‘s report, Kwong died in his sleep Tuesday night.

Hailing from Sacramento, California, Kwong got his acting career started with an appearance on a 1976 episode of the TV series Visions. Among his many other credits are roles in the films Straight Time,...

Prime Video's New Chart-Topping Series Is Perfect For Fast And Furious Fans
Image
Ever since Ransom E. Olds founded Oldsmobile in 1901, Americans have been wild about cars. With roads stretching every which way throughout the United States, cars gradually became the country's preferred mode of transportation -- especially after the development of the freeway system. The automotive industry in the U.S., born and centered in Detroit, has also long been a symbol of roll-up-your-sleeve American ingenuity. We dream big, work hard, and produce reliable automobiles. And Fords.

The country's romance with cars is amply reflected in film and television. Back in the 20th century, Hollywood knocked out big-ticket auto racing films like John Frankenheimer's "Grand Prix," Lee H. Katzin's "Le Mans," and no less than three Elvis Presley movies centered on motorsports. Filmmakers also introduced the car chase as an obligatory set piece in action movies, which was quickly adopted by television producers for slam-bang series like "The Dukes of Hazzard,...

5 Actresses Who Were Almost Cast As Star Trek's Tasha Yar Before Denise Crosby
Image
On the original casting call for "Star Trek: the Next Generation," authored in the late months of 1986, the Enterprise's security chief was to be a Latina character named Macha Hernandez, said to be modeled after the character Vasquez (Jenette Goldstein) from James Cameron's then-recent film "Aliens." Indeed, there was a brief attempt to hire Goldstein for the role, until writer D.C. Fontana pointed out that she wasn't actually Latina. The character was renamed Tanya as a result, then eventually Tasha. The new Tasha Yar was given an intriguing backstory. She was a survivor of an ambitious Earth colony that had, through greed and mismanagement, completely collapsed. She lived among lawlessness, rampant sexual abuse, and poverty before escaping and joining Starfleet.

Denise Crosby was ultimately cast as Tasha Yar, and the show's producers gave the character a position on the bridge, ensuring that Yar would always be on camera. Crosby,...

Wiseguy: Jonathan Banks reprising his role from the ’80s TV series for a new feature film
Stephen J. Cannell
Stephen J. Cannell created or co-created a whole lot of popular TV shows, including The Rockford Files, The A-Team, Renegade, The Greatest American Hero, 21 Jump Street, and The Commish. Somewhere in the mix was the crime drama series Wiseguy, which Cannell co-created with Frank Lupo. That show aired on CBS for a total of 75 episodes over four seasons, running from 1987 to the end of 1990… and industry scooper Jeff Sneider of TheInSneider.com hears that it’s getting a feature film revival, with Jonathan Banks (who is best known these days for playing hitman and fixer Mike Ehrmantraut on Breaking Bad) on board to reprise his role from the original series!

Sneider’s sources inform him that The Pope’s Exorcist producers Sophie Cassidy and Jeff Katz are joining forces with Stephen J. Cannell Productions to bring the Wiseguy movie to the screen. In case you need a refresher, the...

Born in New York City on May 18, 1924, Priscilla Pointer made her screen acting debut in 1954 and, over the course of a career that lasted 60 years, went on to rack up more than 90 other credits. ‘Until Dawn’ Team on Secret Easter Eggs, Potential Sequels and How the Movie and Video Games Could Merge
Image
“Until Dawn” may not have the cultural ubiquity of “Minecraft,” but the horror survival video game has a cult fanbase. Director David F. Sandberg and co-screenwriter Gary Dauberman are not only devotees of the game but a logical team to tackle the adaptation. Sandberg has helmed the horror favorite “Lights Out” and the well-received “Annabelle: Creation,” which was also scripted by Dauberman, while Dauberman is no stranger to adapting beloved horror properties, having co-written both “It” films.

Playing in the sandbox of the beloved game, “Until Dawn” is a new story in the larger universe — not a remake or reboot of the story. Ahead of its release, Sandberg and Dauberman broke down the film’s place in the franchise, some of its easter eggs and potential sequels.

How did you figure out how you wanted to adapt “Until Dawn” into a film?

Dauberman: It was a discussion with Blair Butler,...

Pedro Pascal Insults J.K. Rowling Calling Her a “Heinous Loser”
Image
Disney may have a bit of a PR problem with their Mandalorian / Mister Fantastic actor after he referred to “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling as a “heinous loser.”

Why is Pascal calling Rowling names?

The U.K. Supreme Court recently ruled that transgender women will not be recognized as “women” under the Britain Equality Act.

An activist on Instagram is claiming that Rowling financed the “For Women Scotland” campaign that challenged Britain’s Equality Act in court. Putting the blame on her for the Supreme Court’s ruling.

Rowling posted an image on X with the caption “I love it when a plan comes together,” referencing the 1980s show “The A-Team.”

The Fall Guy (1981-86): What Happened to the TV Show that spawned the movie?
Image
The 80s were a time when country music and a type of hero born of the good ol boy class that came into his own. This could be seen in shows like The Dukes of Hazzard, Bj and The Bear, as well as movies like Any Which Way But Loose and Smokey and the Bandit. They were a time of what would be considered fun action films and TV. Again, this was personified in shows where usually no one got seriously hurt, like The A-Team. The bad guys went to the same shooting school as your friendly neighborhood Stormtroopers. But, one TV show that would personify this “nobody better get hurt” adventure series was The Fall Guy.

The series was designed as a vehicle for star Lee Majors, who had become a household name thanks to The Six Million Dollar Man, but struggled to find a worthy follow-up. This would be it,...

We Watched Nosferatu On This Sony Bravia 8 55-inch Oled TV And Found True Darkness
Image
Scouring the features of the Sony Bravia 8 55-inch Oled TV for the first time, we suspected it might become a modern classic – but only if it could deliver on its promises. Many of us grew up in a world filled with now iconic Sony kit – like the Walkman, the world's first CD player, and Trinitron TVs that outshone the competition twice over. Gate-crashing a friend's house after their dad bought a better colour TV than ours, we'd sit glued to Knight Rider or The A-Team. Back then the electronics world was ruled by a handful of big names. But, no matter who's living room we invaded, the goggleboxes we watched B. A. Baracus and "Howling Mad" Murdock on were often Sony.

That was followed in the '90s with an array of digital video cameras, the very first PlayStation console, and MiniDisc. As keen early-adopters, we hastily bought into this...

Liam Neeson Has One Condition For Starring In Movies Now
Image
Liam Neeson has appeared in over 100 feature films since making his big-screen debut 47 years ago in an adaptation of John Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress." He spent the 1980s making his bones via supporting performances in high-profile movies like "Excalibur," "The Bounty," "The Dead Pool," but it was his lively portrayal of a hell-raising hill person in the Patrick Swayze revenge vehicle "Next of Kin" that made Hollywood perk up and take notice. The following year, Sam Raimi cast Neeson as Peyton Westlake aka Darkman, but it wasn't until Steven Spielberg entrusted the Irish actor with the title role in "Schindler's List" that he was off and running as a movie star.

When Neeson surprised moviegoers in 2008 by thriving as an action star in "Taken," he leaned heavily into the bit. Two sequels followed, as did "The A-Team," "Unknown," "Non-Stop," and "Run All Night." For more serious-minded fans of Neeson's work,...

Omar Sy, Kerry Washington, Mark Strong, Cliff “Method Man” Smith And Oscar-Winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph Star In First Trailer For Shadow Force
Image
“Shadow Force came with one iron clad rule. No one leaves.”

In Shadow Force, Kyrah (Kerry Washington) and Isaac (Omar Sy) were once the leaders of a multinational special forces group called Shadow Force. They broke the rules by falling in love, and in order to protect their son, they go underground. With a large bounty on their heads, and the vengeful Shadow Force hot on their trail, one family’s fight becomes all-out war.

But in this first trailer, it’s definitely Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Cliff “Method Man” Smith who steal the show!

Oh yeah… count us in!

Also starring the always brilliant Mark Strong, the film is from director Joe Carnahan who’s helmed Narc (2002), Smokin’ Aces (2006), The A-team (2010), The Grey (2011), and the very entertaining Copshop (2021) starring Frank Grillo and Gerard Butler.

Look for Shadow Force in theaters May 2.

The Blockbuster Sci-Fi TV Miniseries That Starred Freddy Krueger
Image
When looking back at 1983 television, there are two things noticeably absent: science fiction and anything that required actual thought. No offense to the likes of Dallas, Dynasty, or The A-Team, but "clever social commentary" was barely, if ever, on their agenda, and the closest to sci-fi was K.I.T.T. on Knight Rider. Then came V, the sci-fi miniseries based on Sinclair Lewis' "It Can't Happen Here," except with aliens. V was intelligent, bold, exciting, and horrifying (especially if you're not keen on seeing a live guinea pig being eaten), and proved popular enough to warrant a sequel miniseries, a proper TV series, and a reboot. It also happened to have in its cast the man who would become known as Freddy Krueger the following year.

‘The Voice’ Season 27 Episode 5 recap: Michael pitches hard ball in the final night of Blind Auditions
Image
The Voice Season 27 continued on Monday with the fifth and final batch of Blind Audition performances. After Episode 4, the teams of John Legend, Adam Levine and Michael Bublé had two open spots while Kelsea Ballerini still had three. Each of the coaches had also already deployed each of their single-use advantages, the Coach Replay and the Block. That means that going into the last day of the first round, the artists themselves would have a majority of the power to decide which coach they'd move forward with.

Over the course of the night, only one artist had the pick of the litter with all four judges turning their chairs — that was Guyanese native Jay Ammo with his performance of "The A Team." John said that he has a "lovely voice" and felt it "floating through the room" as he played. Adam agreed, in a sense, calling his voice "ethereal" and...

Patrick Wilson is joining Amy Adams and Javier Bardem in the upcoming Apple TV+ “Cape Fear” adaptation.

From creator and showrunner Nick Antosca and executive producers Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, “Cape Fear” follows a happily married couple whose lives are turned upside down when a notorious killer from their past gets out of prison. Adams will play the wife, Anna, while Bardem will play the killer. Wilson’s role has yet to be officially disclosed.

Apple describes the 10-episode series as a “tense, Hitchcockian thriller” and an “examination of America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century.”

“Cape Fear” is based on the John D. MacDonald novel “The Executioners,” as well as Gregory Peck and Scorsese’s films, from 1962 and 1991, respectively. The Canceled James Bond Movie That Connected To A Sean Connery Classic
Image
Of all the actors to have played James Bond, Timothy Dalton may be the most underrated. Even George Lazenby gets brought up fairly frequently for the novelty of his one-film tenure and its distinct subject matter in the grand scope of the franchise. Despite holding a nearly impeccable reputation as an actor, Dalton entered the franchise at a strange time, caught between the muddy dip of the later Roger Moore years and the modern rejuvenation of "Goldeneye" and Pierce Brosnan's four-film reign.

Dalton only starred in two "Bond" movies — 1987's "The Living Daylights," and 1989's "Licence to Kill." While neither were enormous hits, they both garnered strong reviews. Dalton's 007 was more grounded and serious, and his plots followed suit, both being a bit more Tom Clancy adaptation than the bombastic comic book spy capers of the previous decade. Unfortunately, the world wasn't quite ready for this more muted take on Bond,...

Is Ed Sheeran in a Berlin Film Festival Movie?
Image
If you watch Austrian writer-director Florian Pochlatko’s feature film debut How to Be Normal and the Oddness of the Other World (Wie man normal ist und die Merkwürdigkeiten der anderen Welt) in the Perspectives program of the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, you may catch yourself rubbing your eyes and wondering: Is Ed Sheeran really in this movie? And how the heck did they get him?

That’s no coincidence. Pochlatko’s film, among other things, reflects on such questions as what is real and what is normal.

The movie’s cast is led by Luisa-Céline Gaffron (And Tomorrow the Entire World) and also features Elke Winkens, Cornelius Obonya, and Felix Pöchhacker, among others. And yes, the British man protagonist Pia meets is called Ned and does look a lot like Ed Sheeran. But the actor’s name is Wesley Byrne, and he is a street cleaner who lives in the Greater Manchester area.

Liam Neeson’s Thriller Delivered "Mounting Dread" According to Roger Ebert
Image
Quick LinksLiam Neeson's Pulse-Pounding Survival Thriller Hit'The Grey' Left a Powerful Impression on Famed Critic Roger Ebert

Liam Neeson once again proved he's one of the entertainment industry's most compelling leading men when he starred in the 2012 anxiety-inducing survival thriller The Grey, which sees the Taken actor as a highly-skilled sharpshooter who is tasked with protecting a crew of oil men at an Alaskan oil facility from the ever-present risk of a wolf attack. When their plane crashes in the icy and brutal wilderness on their flight home, the expert marksman rallies the team of survivors to venture into the rugged terrain in search of safety, only to find themselves stalked by a ravenous pack of grey wolves.

Both a celebrated critical and commercial feat, The Grey was a knockout upon its January 27, 2012 release and was yet another career high for Neeson, who by then had emerged as one of...

Al Roker in Today (1952)
Viewers likely noticed that Al Roker was absent from the Today show recently, and this may have been due to the loss of someone close to him.

Hours before Today aired, Roker’s daughter, Courtney Roker Laga, shared on Instagram that her mother, Alice Bell, passed away.

“She was my mother, my heart, and the most loving grandmother to Sky. I was with her for her last breath, and I will carry her love with me always,” Laga wrote in her caption.

Bob Denver & Dawn Wells Reprised Their Gilligan's Island Roles On Baywatch
Image
In the "Baywatch" episode "Now Sit Right Back and You'll Hear a Tale", Eddie (Billy Warlock) and Shauni (Erika Eleniak) are out in the ocean trying to rescue a beleaguered jet skier, when they discover an island that they hadn't ever noticed before. Going ashore, they find that two people have been living on this island, stranded far from shore, for decades. They are Mary Ann (Dawn Wells) and Gilligan (Bob Denver), the same characters seen on the 1964 sitcom "Gilligan's Island."

Wait, what? Aren't those fictional characters? Gilligan and Mary Ann explain that their experiences being stranded on the uncharted desert isle are very much real. Shauni marvels, "I thought you were just a TV show!" But everyone sort of lets the unreality of the situation slip past. No further questions are asked about how Gilligan and Mary Ann were filmed or how their footage was converted into a 1964 CBS comedy series.

Why Alok Sahar From Star Trek: Section 31 Looks So Familiar
Image
Olatunde Osunsanmi's new TV movie "Star Trek: Section 31" is weirdly retro in its setup, feeling reminiscent of delightfully corny B-movies of the 1980s like Peter Manoogian's low-budget time-travel lark "Eliminators." The main character is Empress Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh), the genocidal tyrant of the Mirror Universe, and she has been enlisted to be part of Section 31, Starfleet's ethics-free black ops organization that handles dangerous secret missions.

The film's cast, however, is rounded out by a rogues' gallery of diverse aliens and specialists, each one enlisted to help the Empress on a vital mission to retrieve a doomsday device. There is the shapeshifter Quasi (Sam Richardson), a none-too-bright cyborg bruiser named Fuzz (Sven Ruygrok), a microscopic organism named Zeph piloting a human-sized robot (Robert Kazinsky), an ultra-seductive Deltan named Melle (Humberly Gonzalez), and Rachel Garrett (Kacey Rohl), a straight-laced Starfleet officer who is there to make sure...

Stand Down, Youngs. Old People Are Taking Over TV
Image
Ted Danson was 34 when Cheers debuted in the fall of 1982, on the younger side for a TV star at the time. That season’s top 10 highest-rated shows included a few other thirtysomething leads in Tom Selleck on Magnum, P.I. and John Ritter in Three’s Company, but for the most part, the hits of the small screen were built around actors in their fifties (Larry Hagman on Dallas, George Peppard on The A-Team) or sixties (John Forsythe in Dynasty, Jane Wyman in Falcon Crest). By the time Cheers ended a dozen years later,...

Liam Neeson's Airplane Action Movie From Carry-On Director Becomes Global Netflix Hit
Image
Liam Neeson's airplane action thriller from the director of Carry-On has become a global Netflix hit. Though the Irish actor rose to prominence for his performance in Steven Spielberg's acclaimed Holocaust drama Schindler's List, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, Neeson redefined himself as an action star with the Taken movies. Some of his other action movies include The A-Team, The Grey, Wrath of the Titans, A Walk Among the Tombstones, and Cold Pursuit.

Within the action genre, Neeson has collaborated with director Jaume Collet-Serra numerous times. To date, Neeson has starred in four films from the director – Unknown, Non-Stop, Run All Night, and The Commuter – all of which are action thrillers that received mixed reviews from critics, but were mostly box-office successes. Jaume Collet-Serra's latest action thriller is Netflix's Carry-On, which stars Taron Egerton as a Tsa agent who is blackmailed into allowing...

One Of Liam Neeson's Worst Movies Becomes Global Netflix Hit 2 Years Later

One of Liam Neeson's worst movies has become a global Netflix hit two years after its release. However, starting in 2009, Neeson established himself as a prominent action star with roles in the Taken movies, The A-Team, The Grey, Wrath of the Titans, and Cold Pursuit. The Only Major Actors Still Alive From 1977's Fantasy Island
Image
"Fantasy Island," Gene Levitt's ABC series that ran from 1977 to 1984, had a simple enough premise for it to be contained entirely within the show's title. An island where people come to live out their fantasies was enough of an idea to spawn two made-for-tv movies and seven seasons of fantasy drama, anchored by the great Ricardo Montalbán, who played the mysterious and distinguished Mr. Roarke. Roarke hosted the island's many guests and oversaw their fantasies coming to life, accompanied initially by his assistant Tattoo (Hervé Villechaize).

"Fantasy Island" became popular during its seven years on the air, and Tattoo's catchphrase "The plane, the plane," which he delivered at the top of every episode, was absorbed into the cultural lexicon. The show's popularity hasn't endured quite as well as some other series from the era, though, which is probably partly why Blumhouse's terrible horror getaway version of "Fantasy Island" failed...
